What is phar mor stores?

Phar-Mor was a discount chain of stores that operated in the United States from 1982 to 2002. The company was founded in Youngstown, Ohio, by Michael Monus and David Shapira in 1982. At its peak, Phar-Mor operated over 300 stores in 34 states and was one of the largest discount retailers in the country.

In 1992, Phar-Mor was hit by one of the largest corporate frauds in American history. The company's CFO, Patrick Finn, and several other executives were accused of embezzling over $500 million from the company. As a result, Phar-Mor filed for bankruptcy in 1992.

After the bankruptcy, Phar-Mor restructured and emerged as a smaller company. The company was eventually sold to Giant Eagle, a regional grocery chain based in Pennsylvania, in 1998. The remaining stores were rebranded as Giant Eagle or closed.

Today, Phar-Mor no longer operates as a standalone chain of stores. However, the brand name and logo still exist as part of Giant Eagle's portfolio of private label products.
